Active Roles Requires the Configuration Database, Administration Service, Management Console and optionally, but most often the Web Interface to operate. Any disaster recovery plan should include each component listed.
The Configuration Database should be located and then backed up on a regular basis. The location can be found by opening the Quest One Identity Active Roles Management Console, browsing to Configuration | Server Configuration | Configuration Databases.
The Administration Service is a simple install. If the Server that this is located on has an issue and the service needs to be restored, simply install the service on another server. During the installation, specify to use an Existing Configuration Database found in the above section and finish the installation. You will need to know the Administration Service Credentials and the Location of the Configuration Database.
The ActiveRoles Server Management Console is a simple install. This console maybe installed anywhere and typically will find any matching Administration Service automatically. If the server where this console is installed needs to be repaired, is offline or removed for any reason. Simply re-install the Management Console elsewhere. This console will install on both workstations and servers.
The ActiveRoles Web Interface is also a simple install. If the server hosting the Quest ActiveRoles Server Web Interface goes offline, simply install this component on another server running IIS 7 and follow the prompts. This web interface, just like the Management Console should automatically find the Administration Service.
