When attempting to launch the Active Roles Synchronization Service, the following error is observed:
Synchronization Service requires a configured database. Configure a database, and then try again.
The user Domain\ServiceAccount does not have the required permissions to work with the database SQL-DATABASE. Confirm that the Service Account has the required minimum permission of db_owner role for the database, and restart Synchronization Service.
The Synchronization service was unable to connect to it's SQL database upon initial startup, and does not attempt any further database connections after the initial failed attempt.
This issue has been identified as a product defect, and assigned the Defect ID 275479.
WORKAROUNDS
After verifying SQL availability and connectivity, restart the Synchronization Service to restore connectivity:
If the Synchronization Service is installed on the same host as it's SQL database instance, it is advisable to configure the Active Roles Synchronization Service to Delayed Start to ensure SQL services are able to start before the Synchronization Service after any reboots:
