"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error when using Web Interface global Quick Search features (4250114)

After an upgrade to Active Roles 7.4.4, attempts to use global search features such as Quick Search or Search in the Active Roles Web Interface fail with the following error:

An error occurred during the last operation.
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Members of the Active Roles Admin group are unaffected.

The global Search functions attempt to search Active Roles Azure management nodes, and if unable to do so an error is thrown. The error is encountered regardless if the Azure component is configured in Active Roles or not.

This issue has been identified as Product Defect 277598.

WORKAROUND

In the Active Roles Console, navigate to:

Configuration/Access Templates/Azure/Special/Azure Health Check Allow for Search

On the Administration tab of this Access Template, ensure that Everyone is delegated this access on the Azure Configuration container.

If this linkage is not present:

1. Click Add... | Add...
2. Select Azure Configuration and click Add | OK
3. Click Next | Add...
4. Type in Everyone and click Check Names | OK | Next | Finish

STATUS

This issue has been addressed in Active Roles 7.4.5 and later versions by having the above linkage created by default.
