How to: Add an item to the Available Columns list in the Add/Remove Columns -
Description
In the Active Roles Console, you can add or remove columns to be displayed in the details pane. All available options for adding columns are listed in the Available Columns list of the Add/Remove Columns dialog box.
This list is not very extensive and you may want to add a column that is not available in this list by default.

WORKAROUND
In the steps below, we will add the Location column.
- Open the Active Roles Console and set it to Raw View Mode
- Navigate to:
Configuration | Application Configuration | ActiveRoles Display Specifiers (Custom) - If there is no 409 container below it, create a new container named 409
(409 is the English - United States Locale ID. For more information on Locale ID's, please visit https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-ca/goglobal/bb964664.aspx)
To create 409 container: - Right-click ActiveRoles Display Specifiers (Custom) | All Tasks | Advanced Create
Name: 409
Object class: EDS-Display-Specifier-Container - Click Next
- Click Finish
To create the display specifier: - Right-click 409 | All Tasks | Advanced Create
Name: organizationalUnit-Display
Object class: Display-Specifier - Click Next
- Click Finish
- Right-click organizationalUnit-Display | All Tasks | Advanced Properties
- Check off Show all possible attributes and Include attributes with empty values
- Double-click extraColumns to edit
- Add the following entry:
location,Location,0,-1,0
NOTE the item value consists of 5 tuples using the following syntax:
<LDAP attribute display name>,<column title>,<default visibility [0,1]>,<column width in pixels (-1 for auto)>, 0 (reserved for future use and must be zero)
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
Repeat the steps 7-15 above to create the container-Display display specifier, allowing the options to be available for both Containers, as well as Organizational Units.
- Restart the Administration Service.
After reconnecting to the Active Roles Console, the Location option will now be available in the Available Columns list.
