The Active Roles MMC Console displays error: "You entered an invalid e-mail address" (4298479)

While using the Active Roles MMC Console the following error is received You entered an invalid e-mail address when creating/editing an SMTP e-mail address.

This error can be seen in the Active Roles MMC Console when any of the following special characters are used in an SMTP e-mail address:

!#$%^&**~`?//\\|-_+=

The following has been identified as Defect ID#: 270158, to have this behavior corrected in a future release of Active Roles. Currently this issue effects Active Roles 7.4.3.

WORKAROUND

The error can be bypassed at this time when using the Active Roles Web Interface when creating, or editing an existing SMTP e-mail address. 

1. Find the user object or contact in the Active Roles Web Interface
2. Check mark the box next to the user/contact object
3. Select the Exchange Properties option on the right side of the screen
4. Select the E-mail Addresses tab, and select the Modify... button 
5. Select either Modify existing e-mail address, or Create new e-mail address
6. Select OK
7. Select the desired SMTP e-mail address
8. Add one of the following special characters: !#$%^&**~`?//\\|-_+=
9. Select OK again to confirm the changes
10. Select the Save button to confirm the changes
