High LDAP Traffic after installing the Secure Password Extension (SPE) (4226997)

Why is there is a high amount of LDAP traffic to Domain Controllers after installing the Secure Password Extension (SPE)?

This is a product design as the Secure Password Extension (SPE) makes contact with the Domain Controller (DC) to check for any changes which may have been written to the Password Manager configuration stored in Active Directory. 

How often the Secure Password Extension (SPE) contacts the Domain Controller is controlled by a refresh interval. This refresh interval is defaulted to 5 minutes; however, it can be adjusted through the Secure Password Extension Group Policy Template (ADMx) that is included with the Password Manager installation media.
