The release notes for 7.1 SP4 and 7.1 SP5 state that the Active Directory connector supports Active Directory shipped with Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2.
The documentation Connecting To Active Directory additionally states that the synchronization is also possible against Windows Server 2016 as long as the forest and domain functional levels don't exceed 2012 R2.

The guide Connecting to Active Directory contains the correct information, the connector supports synchronizing Windows Server 2016 with a maximum functional domain level of 2012 R2.
