Cloning a machine with Authentication Services installed on it or after a backup restore (4285373)

To implement Authentication Services on a cloned machine, see suggested steps below. Also if you restored from a backup.

If you clone a machine that contains QAS on it you must do the following on the clone:

1) Perform an "unjoin" of the system:

a) if the computer object should remain in Active Directory (for example, if the original machine that was cloned is still an active QAS server), use the command: /opt/quest/bin/vastool -u <AD admin> unjoin -l

b) if the computer object should be removed from Active Directory, use the command: /opt/quest/bin/vastool -u <AD admin> unjoin

This will delete the Authentication Services database files.

2) Rejoin the system: /opt/quest/bin/vastool -u <AD admin> join <yourdomain.com>

(Replace < AD admin> and <yourdomain.com> with appropriate data and remove <>.)

The Authentication Services database files will be recreated and re-populated from data from AD. 

Peforming an unjoin will delete database files which will contain out-of-date information from the cloned system.

Peforming a join will create new database files on the newly cloned system and populate with the correct, and up-to-date, data.
