Is it possible to upgrade the iDRAC / DRAC firmware on the TPAM console appliances?
iDRAC7 & 8 (R310. R320, R410, R420, R430)
Upgrading the iDRAC firmware on these device, also updates the firmware of the Lifecycle controller. Due to the pre boot measurements changing, this will cause the unit to have Bitlocker issues on subsequent reboots requiring an RMA.
If the "Lifecycle Controller" within TPAM was disabled at build time, you can upgrade/downgrade the iDRAC7 firmware. To confirm this, reboot the appliance with a monitor attached. As it begins the boot process, in the upper right corner of the console screen (underneath "Bios F2") it will say if the Lifecycle Controller is disabled or not.
If the Lifecycle controller is enabled, it is critical that no changes are made - do not disable the Lifecycle Controller or proceed with any firmware upgrades. Changes here can cause BitLocker to trigger, which can cause the appliance to no longer boot into the OS, requiring a replacement. If updated firmware is required contact your Account Manager and quote SKU REF-DMZ-PP.
iDRAC 6 units (R210)
Upgrading the iDRAC firmware to 1.99 has been known to cause the Bitlocker issue. There are no known issues with updating the iDRAC firmware to versions prior to this.
Caution - before proceeding: Verify with Support that the TPAM appliances in question can be safely upgraded.
If upgrading the iDRAC firmware is being reviewed, please provide Support with the serial number(s) of the appliances in question for confirmation before proceeding. The document attached below "Update.Lifecycle.controller.120517.pdf" has further detail regarding the steps that must be followed after confirming that the appliances in question may indeed be safely upgraded.
