What is recommended for Quest Authentication Services (QAS/VAS) cache and Name Service Cache Daemon (NSCD)?
QAS uses its own caching mechanisms for retrieving user and group data from Active Directory (AD). It is possible to use QAS and nscd together, but was not advised in versions of QAS earlier than 3.5. Therefore, the behavior for vastool join and vastool configure nss is to modify /etc/nscd.conf to disable nscd caching of passwd and group data.
For versions of QAS 3.5 and later, nscd caching may be advantageous for some installations. If lookup performance is slow, try enabling nscd and see if that improves the lookup speed without negatively affecting accuracy .
To enable nscd caching of passwd and group data, change the "enable-cache password" and "enable-cache group" options in /etc/nscd.conf to have the value "yes" instead of "no" and restart nscd.
