Install Authentication Services on Windows Server 2008 R2 getting error "Installation failed:
"-2146762486 ErrorCode: A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority"

Causa
Windows is missing a default Trusted Root Certificate. Typically these are kept up to date automatically, however in some environments this may not be possible due to security restrictions. -
Risoluzione
To install the current Root Certificate update from Microsoft see this article on their support site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125Alternately, if you have the correct root certificate and wish to install it manually the following steps may be used:
Open the Certificates MMC
1 - Start | run
2 - Type mmc
3 - Click File | Add/Remove Snap-in
4 - Select Certificates
5 - Select Computer Account and click Next
6- Click Finish
7 - Clik OKTo import Trusted Root Certifcate
1 - Expand Certificates Node
2 - Right Click Trusted Root Certificates | All Tasks | Import
3 - Click Next
4 - Browse to the correct certificate
5 - Click Next
6 - Click Finish
7- Click OK -
