The steps to Decrypt, modify the connection string, and Encrypt the web.config file are as follows:
- Open command prompt on the web server
- Change the directory to the .NET folder
CD C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319- Decrypt the Web.Config file for the Web Application
aspnet_regiis.exe -pdf "connectionStrings" C:\path\to\application- Modify the Web.Config file Connection String with the updated Server, User and Password details
- Encrypt the Web.Config file
aspnet_regiis.exe -pef "connectionStrings" C:\path\to\application- Perform a restart of IIS
