The Active Roles Synchronization Service Sync History database can become very large, impacting performance of the product and the disk space consumed on the SQL Server. Eventually, the SQL Server Service or the Active Roles Synchronization Service may not start as expected due to a low disk space condition on the SQL Server host.
This may happen relatively quickly or over a long period of time, depending on the size of the environment, how many Workflows are present in the Active Roles Synchronization Service, and how often they are run.
There is a Sync History Cleanup task which is not enabled by default. This means that the Active Roles Synchronization Service is configured to retain Sync History forever.
WORKAROUND
In the Active Roles Synchronization Service Console, on the Sync History tab, click on Schedule and configure a schedule to ensure that a reasonable amount of data is retained.
The recommendation is that the schedule be configured to run Daily, at 2am or 3pm, and that it is configured to clean up entries older than 30 days.
Feature 114867 has been created to have the Active Roles Synchronization Service configuration wizard include a screen where the Sync History cleanup is configured.
