Are ephemeral ports required for the SAS client to function?
What are these ports and why are they used?
Aside from the required outgoing ports described in article 4283823 , Safeguard Authentication Services (SAS) requires ephemeral ports for communication since it's naturally a client initiating a connection to a server (Domain controller)
VASD service does not choose which port is utilized for communication. The port is allocated by the OS using the ephemeral port range defined from the network layer as a source port, the server will return communication through this port as well.
This will allow any client to potentially have multiple simultaneous connections if needed that won't conflict with each other.
