1.- Create a backup of the Sync Service configuration
1.1.- Open Active Roles Synchronization Service Console.
1.2.- Click on the settings (cog) icon.
1.3.- Click Export Configuration.
1.4.- Provide a configuration file name and path, and enter a password to encrypt the file with.
1.5.- Click Ok.
1.6.- When prompted the configuration profile saved successfully click ok.
2.- Backup both Sync Service databases (config and data).
3.- Configure the new database.
3.1.- Open Active Roles Synchronization Service Console.
3.2.- Click on the settings (cog) icon.
3.3.- Click Configure Sync Service.
3.4.- On the Service Account and Mode screen enter the Sync Service account username and password, and select the Sync Service Mode, then click Next.
3.5.- On the Database Connection screen.
3.5.1.- Enter the new SQL Server.
3.5.2.- Enter the new Database Name.
3.5.3.- If using a separate SQL Database.
3.5.3.1.- Tick the Store sync data in a separate database.
3.5.3.2.- Give the Sync Service Data database a new name.
3.5.4.- If using Windows Auth to connect to the database (the service account) leave as Use Windows Auth, otherwise change to SQL Server Auth, and enter the SQL account username and password.
3.5.5.- Click Next.
3.6.- Provide a configuration file name and path, and enter a password to encrypt the file with.
3.7.- Click Finish.
3.8.- Close the Active Roles Synchronization Service Console.
4.- Import Configuration and History
4.1.- Re-open the Active Roles Synchronization Service Console (it does need to be restarted).
4.2.- Click on the settings (cog) icon.
4.3.- Click Import Configuration.
4.4.- On the Select source product screen, select the previous product, and select Import Sync History, then click next.
4.5.- On the Do you have the configuration profile file screen.
4.5.1.- Select I have configuration file.
4.5.2.- Enter the path to where the configuration file is stored.
4.5.3.- Provide the password for the file.
4.5.4.- Click Next.
4.6.- On the Specify source SQL Server databases, review:
4.6.1.- SQL Server
4.6.2.- Database(s)
4.6.3.- Authentication type
4.7.- If the details are correct, click Start Import
4.8.- Once complete, click Finish
5.- Review configuration
5.1.- Close and re-open the Active Roles Synchronization Service Console
5.2.- Review connections, mappings, Sync Workflows and Sync History
6.- Export the new configuration to file
6.1.- Open Active Roles Synchronization Service Console
6.2.- Click on the settings (cog) icon
6.3.- Click Export Configuration
6.4.- Provide a configuration file name and path, and enter a password to encrypt the file with
6.5.- Click Ok
6.6.- When prompted the configuration profile saved successfully click ok
