Description
When setting up a Synchronization Project for Exchange Online, the following error is displayed after entering the username and password:
[System.Management.Automation.RuntimeException] You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression.

Cause
This is due to a multiline break in the Username or Password.
This can be confirmed by inspecting the Trace logging from the Synchronization Editor.
This is what would be expected during the connection attempt:
Command: Connect-OneIMExchangeOnline Parameters: -Username sample@username.com -Password <secret value> -ExchangeEnvironmentName O365Default -CertificateThumbPrint -AppID -Organization *.onmicrosoft.com
And this is what a username with a linebreak would look like:
Connect-OneIMExchangeOnline Parameters: -Username sample@username.com -Password <secret value> -ExchangeEnvironmentName O365Default -CertificateThumbPrint -AppID -Organization *.onmicrosoft.com
The -Username parameter does not have the sample@username.com on the same line. -
Resolution
To resolve this issue, manually enter the username and password, ensuring that no newline hidden special characters are entered.
