Error running WGConfig.exe, "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." (4229905)

When attempting to install ESSO version 10 on a Windows Server 2003 R2, we receive the following error, 

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

SOLUTION

This appears to be a compatibility issue between Windows Server 2003 and ESSO v10. Since the 2003 OS is no longer supported by Microsoft, the recommended solution is to install ESSO v10 on a newer version of Windows.

WORKAROUND

If a newer Windows Server is unavailable, you could attempt to install an older version of ESSO on the 2003 Server, however, this would not be an officially supported solution.
