The Management Console for Unix (MCU) does not have to be running for Authentication Services to function. The MCU is a completely optional component which can be used to help manage your Authentication Services, Privilege Manager for Unix, and Privilege Manager for Sudo systems. It can be used to install and update our software on client systems as well as running reports and managing Privilege Manager policies and logs.
If you choose not to use the MCU software, it does not need to be installed; your Unix/Mac/Linux clients running Authentication Services and Privilege Manager will be able to run with no loss of functionality.
