How to move archived logs to a new archive server (4278409)

Warning!

• This solution was tried in a lab environment with NFS archive share.
  The solution should work for CIFS archive share as well.

• It is not tested, unseen issues may happen.

• Data loss can happen only during the migration of the logs to the new archive server.

• Due to moving the data to another server the archive database of SSB will become inconsistent.
  At Search | Archive & Cleanup SSB will show the old share in the 'Archive target' field of the report.

• It is recommended to manually mount the new archive share to a temporary directory and test writing permissions before the migration.
• To make available the new server a manual archiving is needed.

Solution

1. To prevent the execution of automatic archiving raise the 'Retention days' of the relevant archive policies at Policies | Backup & Archive/Cleanup.

2. Migrate the logs from the old archive server to the new one.

3. Modify 'Target' and 'Export' according the new archive server at the relevant archive policies.

4. Run an archiving to the new server.

a. Reduce the 'Retention days' at the relevant archive policies.

b. Execute manual archiving by clicking 'Archive/Cleanup ALL' at Log | Logspaces.

5. Check if the archived logs are available at Search | Logspaces.

SSB mounts the new archive share at the start of the archiving, so the archived logs should be available right after the last step.
